09 Feb RBS to host the Swedish WorldSkills 2017 team in October
You have heard us announce that Reach British School will be hosting the Swedish WorldSkills competitors in October, and we recently went to the launch event. 26 Swedish competitors will visit our students and talk to them about their skill, how they chose that career and what subjects you might need to follow in their footsteps.
We handpicked two of our Year 9 students, Hiba and Hamdan, to represent our school at the launch in an exciting Abu Dhabi venue. Here is Hiba’s view of how she felt about being invited to take part:
“It was an amazing experience and I was very glad that I was able to attend the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi. Being a key representative not only made me proud, it also made me overwhelmed with happiness. At first I didn’t know what to expect I was confused and nervous to attend; it was very hard to decide. I half expected myself to mess everything up and show my nervousness, but while attending it I wasn’t confused or nervous anymore – it felt as if I knew those people for years.
I think this event is a very good chance for us as young teens to show our skills and give it everything we have got, our school can get a high position if we get to win the competition. this is the first time that I am hosting other students from a non-Arab country and it is really exciting and I would love to talk about the UAE and its culture to the Swedish students, and I am looking forward to learning about Sweden.
At the end of the event I was more than happy, and was way more excited about it. The thought of being able to represent my school is a huge responsibility that I’d love to take.”
