Prior to choosing to join Reach British School, I spent over 30 years working in education in a variety of locations and positions. These include primary classroom teacher, Education Advisor, Leadership Consultant, Principal and Vice Principal in both rural and metropolitan schools. I have had the opportunity to work in Abu Dhabi, as well as Egypt, Africa, Qatar, Fiji, Canada, Saudi Arabia and schools across Western Australia.

My most recent position was head of a British School in Cairo, a fantastic school with wonderful staff and vibrant, fascinating city.  Reach British School lured me away with the prospect of returning to Abu Dhabi where I previously worked as part of an ADEC school reform project.

I have a son and a daughter who keep me young and focused on what today’s students need for the future workforce.  I’ll have to work hard to find time to add to my list of 56

I started my teaching career in 1996 in South Africa and moved to the Middle East with my wife and two daughters in 2006. I have worked as a middle and senior school leader in several countries that include Syria, Oman, Qatar and the UAE. I bring 21 years of experience to the Reach education table. My expertise lies in a wide range of schools with a goal of raising academic standards.  I am passionate about teaching and learning and believe that setting high expectations for students can lead to outstanding achievements. All students are capable of learning and can reach their full potential if we work together as a team to support them. I am very excited to be part of the senior Leadership Team at Reach British School and look forward to working with students, parents and staff.

Andrew grew up in Poole, on the south coast of the United Kingdom. He studied at Winchester University, where he completed a four year course in BA Hons in Primary Education with a specialism in Design and Technology. With a career in education spanning 18 years, Andrew has developed his knowledge of curriculum and assessment both in the UK and UAE, carefully adapting learning opportunities to meet the context and needs of the students.

He has taken on a range of leadership positions, most recently as founding Head of Primary at a new school in Abu Dhabi and is excited to be joining Reach British School as the Head of Primary. He strongly believes that each student has their own journey, developing skills and knowledge to engage in an ever changing world as global citizens.

Born and raised in the North West of England, I’m a father of two boys, aged 1 and 2. I have recently taken up running, competing in a number of half marathons and the London Marathon 2018. I’m a keen football fan and often play (casually) in a weekly get together. Other hobbies include Golf and Scrabble. My biggest interest, however, is spending time with my children.

My Bachelor’s Degree was Mathematics with Management at the University of Liverpool and I have a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Secondary Mathematics. I taught in both comprehensive and private schools in the UK before moving to Qatar originally to take up a post as a mathematics teacher in a private school there. I am Ghadeer Al Kharoof from Jordan. I have a BSc in Arabic Literature and a Diploma Certificate in Teaching from Abu Dhabi University. I worked as an Arabic language teacher in Jordan, then as the Head of Arabic Department, and primary school vice principal.

I have also taught Arabic Language for Arab and non-Arab students, and worked as a coordinator for the Arabic, Islamic and Social Studies Department in different private schools.

Ms. Manal is originally from Jordan and has been living in the UAE since 1997. She has a Master's Degree in Special Educational needs from Zayed University and has 14 years of experience working in both Government and International Schools in Abu Dhabi. Over the last 7 years, Manal has worked as a Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO).

Ms. Manal believes that all children have the right to learn and to be included. Her passion is to support all her students and meet their needs to help them be successful in the future.

Before joining Reach, I had 15 years of experience in finance and advisory services in various industries, of which eight years were as a finance manager after earning my CMA.

I joined Reach British School September 2015 in its second year of operation. I have witnessed the impressive progress this young school is achieving and I’m proud to be part of the hard working and dedicated team at Reach, who are targeting excellence in all aspects of teaching, learning and caring. Pooja is an experienced senior HR professional with vast experience in recruitment and retention, conflict resolution, change management, labor relations and benefits administration.  She has over five years of management experience and worked with a leading education investment company in Dubai.

Dave was born in England and raised mostly in Wales. He studied at Cardiff University achieving a BSc in Genetics and HND in Applied Biology. He has taught in several outstanding schools in England over the last 10 years with his last role being Head of House.

Now in his second year at Reach British School,  David is proud to say that he has achieved record results in A/S Level and IGCSE Science and wants to build on these achievements and improve results again.

David is a huge Rugby fan and ex-rugby League player. Outside of school he is a keen golfer and scuba diver and love checking out the amazing restaurants of Abu Dhabi!

Sean has 19 years of experience in the field of education and is a specialist in both Mathematics and Science. He has taught in Jamaica, the UK and the UAE, but most of his time has been spent in the UK teaching the National Curriculum for England and Wales.

He has spent the last 7 years teaching in the UAE public and private schools.

Sean is very aware of the culture and the needs of our students. His motivation from seeing students thrive academically and seeing them become active members of the societies they are a part of.

Una has been teaching for three years and studied at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

She enjoys teaching because it’s a career to be proud of and gives her the ability to make a difference in her students' lives. Una is especially passionate about teaching Year 1 and loves being a part of their development. Her goals for her students are to work hard and
achieve all the learning objectives across all subjects so that they are ready to take on Year 2 and most importantly, enjoy the learning process and have fun.

Una believes Parents are an integral part of their child’s education by encouraging their child, helping with homework and
communicating with the teacher.

Alastair joined Reach British School as a teacher in Year 3 and has thoroughly enjoyed his time since. In this new role at RBS, he is very excited to work with lots more children and hope to make everyone as enthusiastic about mathematics as he is.

Alastair received his degree of BSc (Hons) in Primary Education in the UK, and has taught in a wide range of schools over the past 4 years. A lot of these schools have had children that use English as an additional language, having experience of which has benefitted him when supporting children here at RBS.

He continually develops his profession through seeking further opportunities to learn, most recently of which he has achieved certification, focusing on online child safety.

Samantha is from England in the UK. She studied for 3 years at Lancaster University and received a degree in History. She then studied a Postgraduate Certificate in Education degree in Primary Education (5-11 years) at the University of Hull. She is now in her 6th year of teaching with the UK National Curriculum and her 2nd year of teaching at Reach.

Samantha is very passionate about developing Science as a core curriculum area for RBS pupils. Science is an important part of the curriculum. Children constantly want to know why? They want to do experiments; they want to investigate.

Her goal is to instill awe and wonder into the delivery of Science, excite children about taking part in their own experiments and inspire them to become facilitators of their own scientific discoveries.

Usman's ambition and passion for teaching has allowed him to achieve a 2:1 in BA (Hons) Primary Education (with QTS) as well as becoming a Maths leader within my second year of teaching. This was in an OFSTED rated ‘outstanding’ four-form entry school in inner-city London; with a high percentage of pupils who had English as a second language. Alongside this, He was also a Year 3 class teacher.

Prior to this, he was in another inner-city school in the North of England where he taught in Year 4. He has just over 2 yearsof experience teaching the English National Curriculum. However, he is extremely familiar with this curriculum as it is what he used whilst training to become a teacher. Melissa is from Pretoria in sunny South Africa. Melissa obtained a four-year HED Diploma in Pre- and Primary Teaching from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and has 25 years of teaching and managing experience in Early Years and Year 1. She moved to the Middle East in 2006 and has taught in South Africa, Syria, Oman, Qatar and UAE. Melissa has been a part of the Reach family for six years working hard with the school to make it an Amazing Learning experience to every child in her class. Her favorite quote is: “To infinity and beyond…” by Buzz Lightyear, as she believes there is no limit to learning.

During her spare time, Melissa enjoys reading fantasy books, fine dining, traveling and oil painting.

Sonika Van Der Merwe grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. She holds a Bachelors of Education in Early Childhood.  She has more than 15 years of teaching experience ranging from Nursery to Key Stage 1. She did supply teaching in London after graduating and worked in various schools across South Africa, including government and private schools, where she gained valuable experience with different curriculums. She worked in Sharjah for two years at an American Curriculum school before joining the Reach family in 2019.

Sonika is excited about her new role at Reach British School. She is eager to gain further experience in the EYFS and believes that she could have valuable input in our young students' education. Together with her team, they strive to promote the school’s vision to be 'the school of choice' and promote 'Amazing Learning."

Seneisha and I am the Year 1 Leader at Reach British School. She has been teaching for 5 years and graduated with a PGCE in General Primary in the UK. She has excellent knowledge and understanding of the British National curriculum as she has trained and worked in London.

She enjoys working with children and has a passion for inspiring learning. She takes pride in her job and has extremely high standards for the children to succeed whilst having fun! Year 1 is a great year to lead, as she feels teachers and parents get to witness such great progression from achieving Early Learning Goals to achieving Year 1 Objectives.

Ar Reach, her goal is to build a positive relationship with both the children and families, ensuring the children are safe and are able to reach their full potential alongside enjoying their time in year 1!

 Kerri responsibilities include providing outcome-based lessons based on the National Curriculum of England, providing a safe place for students to learn and communicate with parents and families regarding learning in the classroom. As a middle leader, she supports Year 3 teachers in learning and teaching, provide support to parents in the Year group and support the school in implementing the curriculum and any schemes that are provided.

Kerri has been teaching for 21 years. she has a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English Language Learners and a Master degree in Elementary Education. She began in the United States where she taught for 11 years in Arizona and Massachusetts. In 2010, Kerri arrived in the UAE and taught for nine years for the Ministry of Education in Al Ain. She then shifted to Reach British School in 2019.

Lucy grew up in the West of Ireland and moved to England where I undertook my degree in Education specializing in Maths at Canterbury Christ Church University. She spent several years teaching
in London, England before moving to Abu Dhabi where she has worked in a British curriculum school.

Her teaching allows her to foster independence, confidence and self-esteem in all the children that she teaches, whilst keeping their love of learning alive, inspiring them to be happy and eager for knowledge. Lucy believes that education is a fundamental aspect of children’s lives and its role in shaping their future is paramount. It is her ambition to have a positive influence on children and instill in them a passion for learning.
