Immersive and Living Museums
Our pupil-centred environments scaffold discovery and provide engaging opportunities for our young archaeologists to find out about the past, and for our map detectives to explore places in Abu Dhabi and beyond.
Talk for writing
An approach to writing that encourages all pupils - including those with EAL needs - to orally rehearse stories, use pictorial language to map events from texts and add actions to be fully immersed in their model text before writing independently.
Values-driven global citizens
Our values are embraced in everything we do at our primary school in Abu Dhabi, nurturing pupils as future global citizens. Weekly class assemblies introduce key themes around a core value, with certificates shared in year group assemblies - to which parents are warmly invited.
Broadening horizons
Our international primary programme is enriched with school visitors, off-site visits and activities that further immerse pupils in their studies and help them connect their education to the wider world.
Our primary aim is to empower students to confidently apply their mathematical skills and knowledge in real-life scenarios. We strive to make Maths engaging and practical by incorporating games and critical thinking exercises into our teaching approach. We follow the Collins Busy Ants Maths scheme in lower primary, supplementing it with a wide variety of additional resources.
Pupils in every Year Group explore concepts including data handling, shape, space and numerical applications - covering real-world tasks such as managing money and problem-solving each term. Through hands-on projects, children immerse themselves in practical applications of maths. We integrate Maths concepts with themes from Science or Literacy lessons when relevant, encouraging every child to apply their mathematical understanding beyond the Maths classroom.
The wonderful world of Science at Reach British School is designed to ignite curiosity, inspiring students to ask questions, make predictions and explore their ideas. Through scientific enquiry, pupils develop essential investigative skills as they delve into fascinating topics including life processes (plants, animals and humans), materials and properties, and physical processes (forces, motion, electricity, light and sound).
Science is a weekly adventure where pupils not only discover but also apply their knowledge across other areas of study - for example, exploring 'Space' in Year 2.
In all classes, we provide ample opportunities for students to engage in meaningful conversations and actively listen to one another. Whether speaking English in pairs, participating in small group discussions, or presenting to a wider audience during assembly time, children have the chance to develop their language acquisition and pronunciation skills.
Our dedicated teachers lead by example, reading stories aloud and demonstrating fluent and expressive reading. Through educational trips and visits, pupils further develop their speaking and listening skills and practise asking a variety of thought-provoking questions.
At Reach, we believe in equipping pupils with the tools they need to become strong and confident writers. Starting with the fundamentals of words, phrases and sentences, students develop their skills to write for a variety of purposes - ranging from non-fiction to fiction and poetry. We reinforce these skills through weekly spelling tests and grammar and punctuation practice, providing a sturdy foundation for those acquiring a second language.
Our integrated teaching approach ensures that grammar rules are not only taught but genuinely understood. We provide dedicated teachers with exceptional writing tasks from the Read Write Inc series, linked to reading books that pupils enjoy reading together in pairs.
We believe that Art is a vital element of our programme, and we love incorporating it across our themes. Our aim is to provide pupils with a diverse range of materials and techniques, exposure to a multitude of styles and media, and the freedom to develop their own personal style.
Our specialist teachers guide and encourage every child, creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere where each individual can truly thrive. We are dedicated to inspiring and educating young people in the wonderful world of Art.
At Reach, we believe that Music plays a key role in fostering a love for sound and rhythm amongst our students. We aim to create a vibrant musical experience that encompasses listening, appreciation and active participation.
Pupils are encouraged to explore singing and percussion instruments, embracing the joy of making music together. In Key Stage 1, children enjoy one music lesson per week guided by their class teacher. As they progress to Key Stage 2, music becomes intertwined with various subject areas, enhancing themes and creating a holistic approach to education.
For many students, the highlight of the year is the end-of-year concert, where they have the opportunity to showcase their musical talents to families and peers, celebrating their growth and creativity.
We strive to empower every student with the confidence and skills needed to use computers and technology responsibly. We provide ample opportunities for children to explore computer functions in the safety of our school. We also set research tasks as homework, allowing young learners to practise gathering information from child-friendly websites. In Year 3, pupils enjoy a weekly specialist lab lesson taught by one of our skilled ICT teachers.
Throughout Key Stage 1, ICT is seamlessly woven into various subject areas, providing a well-rounded and practical approach to education.
We believe that a strong foundation in computer literacy is a fundamental part of every child's development, opening many doors for their future endeavours.
Led by our dedicated specialist teachers, pupils at Reach engage in a variety of physical activities - from dance to team games and individual sports. We cultivate a positive approach to an active and enjoyable lifestyle, developing not only physical skills but also important attitudes such as teamwork, negotiation and critical thinking.
Our inclusive approach ensures that every child participates in Sports Day and contributes to their school team's success, earning valuable house points. Children in Year 5 and beyond benefit from swimming lessons as part of their PE programme, providing essential life skills and a well-rounded physical education experience.
