Eight students from Reach British School (RBS) proudly represented the school at the ISP Model United Nations (MUN) Virtual Conference, an event that brought together students from across the EMEA region. Held from April 25 to 27, the conference offered participants the opportunity to engage in high-level debate, diplomacy, and global problem-solving.

As part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), Reach British School benefits from a dynamic network of international learning opportunities designed to broaden students’ horizons and develop global citizenship. ISP’s commitment to fostering collaborative and intercultural education enables RBS students to participate in events such as the MUN conference, where they engage with peers worldwide and gain invaluable insights into international relations and global challenges.

RBS delegates were distributed across four different committees, with three students participating in the advanced group and five in the beginner group. The committees and their corresponding topics were:

  • The Use of Chemical and Biological WeaponsLisandi and Ojaswe

  • Combating Organised Crime – Jose and Deeptha

  • Humanitarian Efforts in UkraineRijja  Iffah and Eshaal

  • Sustainable CitiesNajim

Ahead of the event, students conducted extensive research on their assigned countries, crafting detailed position papers and preparing opening speeches. Their preparation was critical in enabling them to effectively represent their nations during committee sessions.

Over the course of the three-day conference, participants took part in opening and closing ceremonies, moderated caucuses, and resolution drafting sessions alongside international peers. The experience offered students a platform to enhance their public speaking, critical thinking, and collaborative skills.

Reflecting on her experience, first-time participant Iffah shared:
“One of the skills that I improved the most on during my MUN experience was confidence. Though I’m naturally shy and quiet, I’m learning how to embrace the more outspoken side of me. As a first-time participant, there were rules or unspoken rituals that I wasn’t aware of, so it was as though I was introduced to a whole new world. I had a lot of fun during the three-day event: MUN served as a platform that allowed me to articulate my thoughts and opinions on a global scale, and interacting with students from all over the world exposed me to intelligent perspectives I hadn’t previously considered. I would definitely recommend anyone who is interested in history, law or international relations — or even just debate in general — to participate as it expands your knowledge in ways you might not have imagined.”

RBS students performed exceptionally well, with several notable achievements:

  • Jose was awarded Best Delegate in his committee for his outstanding contributions and diplomatic skill.

  • Resolutions submitted by Rijja , Iffah, and Najim were successfully passed, reflecting their strong research, negotiation, and leadership abilities.

  • All eight RBS delegates proposed and led moderated caucuses, showcasing initiative and confidence in global discussions.

Throughout the event, the students demonstrated the ISP values of ambition, respect, and collaboration. RBS staff and the broader school community extend their heartfelt congratulations to the MUN team for their commitment, performance, and professionalism.

Well done to the RBS MUN team—you have made us proud!
